2009-2010 President: Michael J. Mohr, DO, FAAFP

President's Message July 2010
I hope all CSOM members are having a great
summer. The staff at CSOM has been very busy putting the final touches on our
Annual Summer Meeting and CME at Beaver Run Resort in Breckinridge, CO. The
program chairman, Dr. Duane Brandau, and his moderators have put together an
excellent series of lectures for “Medicine in the Mountains: A 2010 Guide to
Primary Care”. This conference will run from August 12th to 15th 2010. The
Annual CSOM Business Meeting and Luncheon will be held on Saturday August 14th
2010 from 12:30 to 1:45pm. This will be an important meeting for CSOM members to
attend to get important updates on what is happening in Osteopathic medicine at
the state and national level.
The AOA House of Delegates will be held in Chicago, IL from July 15th to 18th. I
am proud to announce that the Colorado delegation increased from 6 to 7 seats
with an additional seat for an Osteopathic medical student representative from
Rocky Vista University – College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Colorado
delegation will represent our state very well as we work with other delegations
to review resolutions important to the future of Osteopathic Medicine. The other
exciting happening at this year’s HOD will be the inauguration of Dr. Karen
Nichols as AOA president. Her leadership skills and experience in the
Osteopathic profession will ensure a successful term as president of the AOA.
As we all know, this is an important election year with campaigns for local,
state, and national office in full swing. It remains very important to be active
in the legislative process with so many important issues that are being decided.
CSOM and CMS have been busy attending legislative receptions over the past
several weeks and more will come as the elections gets closer. Having a
physician present at these receptions is important and makes a huge impact on
the legislator to hear our point of view. It is also important to contribute to
the CSOM OPPC to ensure that our voice and concerns are heard by the candidates.
This will be my final message to you as CSOM President. It has been an honor to
serve over the past year. I want to thank Terry Boucher and Rachel Rayman for
all their help and dedication to CSOM. This society is successful due to their
hard work in running the daily activities of CSOM. I also want to thank the CSOM
Board members; this is a group of volunteer osteopathic physicians that have
given an incredible amount of time to work on the issues facing osteopathic
medicine in the state of Colorado. We will inaugurate Dr. Dan Clang as our new
president on August 14th 2010. His experience on the CSOM board and leadership
skills will be an excellent asset for success of our society over the next year.
I look forward to working with him and the entire board in 2010-2011. Finally, I
want to thank the members for their support over the past year. I wish you all
great success in all your endeavors both professionally and personally.
